WeCode24 is a Naspers initiative, in partnership with Media24 and the University of Stellenbosch. It is centred around learning to program computers, and is concerned with empowering learners to make an impact on the world with the things they are passionate about.
People are born with an intellectual spark that values knowledge, there is
pleasure in finding things out. This can most easily be seen in children, who have an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn and to create. But effective learning requires a playful, creative and interactive environment for guided exploration. WeCode24 is about developing such environments, where passion and wonder and curiosity are the drivers of learning, and where learning is ‘hard fun’.
We designed and continue to develop the WeCode24 programme. The pilot successfully ran at a university and a number of schools in the Western Cape in 2018, and the second phase of the programme is currently being launched. You can read more about it on the WeCode24 website.
