Community Engager
WeCode24 is a hacker-style coding movement for high school learners in under-resourced schools. Our work happens in coding clubs at schools across the Western Cape — and we want to keep the energy alive and growing.
This role is about presence. Being on the ground at club visits, and active online where learners share their work. You’ll help tell the story of what’s happening, support clubs, share great work, and bring that spark of momentum that helps everything grow.
It’s a mix of fieldwork, communication, and content — part people-person, part organiser.
You’ll have clear direction, but you won’t be micromanaged. Sometimes roles shift to meet what’s needed. If you’re resourceful, adaptable, and good with people — you’ll thrive here.
What you'll be doing:
- Visiting WeCode clubs, talking with learners, handing out prizes, taking photos and short videos.
- Posting and resharing content on WhatsApp, Instagram, and other social channels.
- Helping run events, challenges, or pop-ups. MCing if you’re good with a mic.
- Gathering feedback from clubs and relaying what’s happening on the ground.
- Helping pack and send materials, organise prize deliveries, support the team.
- Giving short presentations about WeCode to schools, community organisations, or partners — sometimes to learners, sometimes to teachers, principals, or stakeholders.
- Brainstorming ways to keep clubs motivated and connected.
What we’re looking for:
- A strong communicator — confident, positive, and clear with learners and adults alike, in person and online.
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans, and preferably Xhosa as well.
- Good with young people. Can walk into a school and get everyone paying attention.
- Comfortable working with learners and facilitators from all kinds of backgrounds.
- Tech-comfortable: you know your way around WhatsApp, Instagram, Google Docs, etc.
- Good on social media, and not scared to film yourself or post on the fly.
- Driver’s licence essential. Own transport strongly preferred.
The role involves regular travel across the metro and surrounds. If you don’t yet have your own vehicle, tell us how you plan to manage the travel. - Organised enough to follow through on tasks and keep others in the loop.
Bonus if you:
- Grew up in a similar context to the learners, or understand township and rural school contexts firsthand.
- Have experience as a facilitator, or have worked with youth, run a club, or led community events.
- Know simple content tools (Canva, CapCut, etc.).
- Enjoy a bit of chaos and solving problems creatively.
Arrangement

Remuneration
From R14 000 to R18 000 per month, depending on experience. We’re open to discussing compensation based on experience and the value you bring to the role.
Location
