Graphic Designer
WeCode24 is a hacker-style coding movement for high school learners in under-resourced schools.
We’re looking for a mid-level designer to shape the visual identity of WeCode24 — from zines and badges to banners and websites. The work should feel alive, honest, and unmistakably South African.
Responsibilities and duties
- Visual design for communication materials ranging from regular issues of a learning magazine, to physical merch (badges, stickers, t-shirts, etc.), websites, logos, signage, reports, ads, social media and more.
- Design visuals that make coding concepts clear without being boring — instruction meets expression.
- Execute design briefs, taking direction from a creative lead.
- Regularly produce draft designs and present these for review.
- Assist with usability- and user experience testing.
- Manage your time, work to deadlines.
Skills, experience, education
- Diploma in graphic design with 2+ years of solid experience.
- Strong in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign (Adobe CC Suite).
- Experienced in designing for print and production — prepping files, working with printers.
- Good eye for layout and visual clarity, especially for step-by-step educational content.
- Bonus if you can write clean English copy, or speak Afrikaans and/or Xhosa.
- Even better if you know motion graphics, illustration, video editing, or animation.
- Familiarity with comics, anime, sci-fi, or cyberpunk is a plus.
Qualities and work ethic
- Works well in a flexible, creative, small-team environment.
- Takes feedback constructively, and gives it clearly.
- Detail-oriented — delivers polished work.
- Communicates clearly.
- Reliable and self-managed.
- Keeps the vibe positive and collaborative.
Arrangement
Full-time.
Remuneration
From R16 000 to R24 000 per month, depending on skills and experience.
Location
Hybrid or remote-flexible, with in-person work in Firgrove, Somerset West when needed.
